Just popping down to the shops comprises of five multimedia collages responding to shopping lists I have collected from my local IGA. In total I found twenty shopping lists but decided to focus five in particular. The collages are a collection of lino cuts, photography, material, digital drawings, and photocopy transfers and engage conceptually with absence and presence. I am interested in the pieces of us we leave behind, how did they get here? Who did they belong too? What’s their story? I am interested in creating personas around the shopping lists and exploring local food culture, memories and relationships with food. I have engaged with a variety of community members for inspiration and contribution to better inform the work.

Hello, I’m Abigail Bayliss O’Dowd and I’m a third-year visual art student from Castlemaine in central Victoria. I am a multidisciplinary artist who explores mediums such as printmaking, photography, collage, and installation. I also enjoy working with found objects, such as clothing, that I source locally. The pandemic has encouraged me to closely examine my local community for sources of inspiration and has prompted me to reach out to community members for contribution to better inform my practice. For the Latrobe University Arts Festival, I am exhibiting 5 multimedia collages responding to shopping lists I have collected from my local IGA exploring absence and presence within the community. Post festival I am aiming to continue on to study visual arts honours at La Trobe in 2022 and eventually a master’s in art therapy.
