At the beginning of semester Creative Arts and English students, working across theatre, screen, creative writing and visual arts, embarked on developing a multi-arts, multi-campus festival. While classes were still being delivered online at the time, it seemed that the worst of lockdowns in Victoria was now behind us and that all events would exist with audiences in a live fashion. However, within a few weeks circumstances changed again; Victoria and particularly Melbourne was about to enter its longest lockdown of the pandemic. This time capsule project was developed to capture this time.
Over the course of 10 weeks while students studied online and the idea of interaction was limited to our weekly Zoom class, they contributed images responding to ten themes. These themes were selected and curated into these ten collaged images. They reflect the emotional pendulum of lockdown, the small things that we engaged with that brought joy, and the simple acts of looking, smelling, listening and sharing.
Enjoy this exhibition of 10 thematic images, made with 175 individual photographs. We are sure they will surprise and bring joy and like all great time capsules will be a record of these times we have lived through.
Project developed by Samuel Bentley, Rebecca Biris, Jamali Bowden, Annie Byrne, Imogen Gallagher, Annelise Henderson, Jacqueline, Darren Lee, Madeleine Nolan and Joshua Taylor.
Thanks to all the students who contributed images which has made this such a rich project.
